Tuta Absoluta in Russia
Tuta absoluta identified in tomato sample in the Russian region of Kaliningrad

In May 2009, The Phytosanitary Service in Kaliningrad region has communicated the initial identification of Tuta absoluta in samples collected from several tomato shipments arrived from Spain. The collected larvae were allowed to grow to adults in the laboratory. All characteristic of the various life stage of the insect seems to be consistent with the Tuta absoluta. Further tests to establish male adult's response to synthetic female pheromone is currently underway.
The identification was originally made by Alyona Petson, Senior Biologist at the Kaliningrad regional phytosanitory Service. Formal notification will follow upon final confirmation of all tests. |
