In a recent publication, The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural development and fisheries in Portugal has announced the arrival of Tuta absoluta to the country. It has specifically cited the capture of the insect during May 2009 in a greenhouse near Faro in the region of Algarve. In July 2009 Tuta absoluta was also captured in greenhouses in the area of Silveira and Cunhados in the western parts of Portugal.
At the end of July, José Firmino, the director of the Interprofessional Association of Horticulture West told LUSA news agency that Tuta absoluta appeared in the western region for the first time "just a month ago," |
